It was the perfect end of the year celebration, with former Friends of the Library president and long-time member Gretchen Sleeman having had a plaque of recognition revealed to her.
The plaque, which has engraved on it Mrs Sleeman's name, is located on one of two seats outside the library that the group helped to raise money for.
Mrs Sleeman is well-known as a former librarian at Charles Sturt University Wagga and has been a passionate voice of advocacy in her 30-year involvement in the group.
"Ever since I was a child, all I wanted was to be a librarian, I never wanted to be anything else," she said.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the time I've spent here and it's been a wonderful library to see grow."
Wagga City Library manager Claire Campbell said the end of year event was the perfect way to honour such a valuable member of the group.
"We always get together for the end of the year and usually have a few drinks and think back over what's happened throughout the year, but this year is a special year," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Gretchen has been a member of Friends of the Library for about 30 years, which is a remarkable achievement."
Friends of the Library Wagga president Annemaree Lloyd said Mrs Sleeman has been a true friend in that she has shown her dedication and passion.
"She's very passionate and we're lucky to have her," Ms Lloyd said.
The group exists to provide advocacy for the Wagga City Library and helps in raising and securing funds for it.
"There are only two Friends of the Library groups that have lasted this long, one is in Byron Bay and the other is us, here in Wagga," Ms Campbell said.
And the group is only headed up from here.
"One big thing that happened this year is that [it was confirmed] that Wagga City Library will be its own service as of July 1," Ms Campbell said.
"So we will be able to expand the service into other suburbs and villages which is a really big achievement.
"Another thing is, we're completely refurbishing - we're doing the children's area and the entrance upstairs."
Friends of the Library also played a big part in securing the funds for the refurbishment.
