The flooding assistance comes as the Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that Wagga's main weather station had broken its record for total rainfall in November at 158.4 millimetres, eclipsing the previous record set in 2021 by seven millimetres.

Federal Riverina MP Michael McCormack said the Lockhart local government area had been added to the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), a program jointly funded by the federal and NSW governments.

"We know these driving rains have, at the very least, put potential bumper harvests in serious jeopardy if not already completely ruined by floodwaters," Mr McCormack said.

"Unfortunately, this continues to be an unfolding situation for many areas with more rain forecast and the La Nina weather pattern wreaking havoc across the state."

The disaster assistance will help the Lockhart Shire Council cover the costs associated with the operational response and repairing damaged essential public assets.

Residents will also receive support to get back on their feet, including grants to replace essential household contents or repair structural damage to homes.

DRFA assistance can also include: concessional interest rate loans for small businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations; freight subsidies for primary producers; and grants to eligible non-profit organisations.

NSW Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall during a visit to Wagga on Thursday said farmers affected by flooding or rain damage to crops would be supported.

"The disaster declarations have been made and extended three times now and both Local Land Services and Department of Primary Industries are actually working with landowners across all of those regions,' he said.

"They are trying to assess right now the total damage bill and once those figures are all tabulated, hopefully we will see those disaster declarations scaled up."
