For more than a year, Riverina teachers have been voicing their disapproval by hosting rally's as part of the statewide More Than Thanks campaign being led by the NSW Teachers Federation.
Now, they are preparing for a 24 hour strike.
The campaign calls for the NSW Government and local members of parliament to address unsustainable workloads and uncompetitive salaries contributing to a growing shortage of teachers.
NSW Teachers Federation Country Organiser for Riverina Tanya McKinlay will lead the strike from Wagga.
Ms McKinlay will aslo meet with a cohort of teachers and principals to rally at the Riverina Equestrian Centre coinciding with the stoppage on Tuesday morning, December 7.
New South Wales Teachers Federation deputy president Henry Rajendra is anticipating a large group of Riverina teachers to take to the rally, as it is locations such as the Riverina who are feeling the brunt of the shortage.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"While there are teacher shortages clearly right across NSW, it is more concerning for regional NSW," he said.
"No community is immune, however, when it comes to regional and remote communities it is affecting them more deeply due to an array of challenges and often they find difficulties in attracting teachers because of the location and the uncompetitive salaries."
Federation president Angelo Gavrielatos said the decision was made to conduct a 24 stoppage after the federation council voted unanimously.
"When the governments ignore the facts, the only option is to act," Mr Gavrielatos said.
"That is why we have taken the decision to hold a 24 hour strike on Tuesday, December 7.
"We need to do this for each other, for our students and to open the door to all those talented young people out there who we need to be the teachers of tomorrow."
