For the second straight week, no results were possible in first grade matches due to rain, with the Blues' clash with the Bulldogs the only match where some play was possible.

The defending premiers were in a dominant position at 1-149 off 23 overs when the match was called off, with Alex Smeeth (68 not out off 52 balls) and Blake Harper (52 not out) combining for an unbeaten 105-run stand.

South Wagga lost top order stalwarts Warren Clunes and Jeremy Rowe, but Harper and Smeeth have got off to solid starts to the season.

"The boys were looking very comfortable at the crease and it's disappointing we couldn't get a result," Gerhard said.

"Smeeth was in some very good touch and the same with Blake (Harper), he was going at better than a run a ball and timing it well.

"Everyone's in the same boat, we'd like to get a couple more games in. We're doing everything we can during the week to prepare and put covers on, but when it rains on the day there's not much you can do about it."

"The top order has been the only part of our side which has got a decent go thus far, and they've been good. It's promising signs after losing a couple of players from last year that others have stepped up."
