A Riverina man has been charged after police allege he sexually assaulted four children with some offences dating back to 1996.

In April this year, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District established Strike Force Barncleuth to investigate the allegations of historical child sex and online child exploitation offences in region.
Following inquiries, officers arrested a 41-year-old man at a Riverina town about 6am Friday and charged him with 15 offences.
This included eight counts of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10 years, three counts of aggravated sexual intercourse of a person between 10 and 14 years and two counts of aggravated indecent assault of a victim under authority.

The man has also been charged with the aggravated sexual intercourse child under 16, and using a carriage service to send indecent material to person under 16 years.
Police will allege in court that four children - then aged between three and 14 - were sexually assaulted by a man known to them between 1996 and 2020.
The man appeared at court on Friday where he was formally refused bail to appear in the same court on November 22.
