A BROWN snake bite has landed a man in hospital after he was bitten on the leg at a property west of Tamworth in NSW's north east on Wednesday morning.

The Westpac rescue chopper was urgently deployed with antivenom on board after reports a 49-year-old man had been bitten by a brown snake on a property at Spring Ridge just before 10am.
The man was treated at the scene by two paramedic crews from Ambulance NSW, before he was rushed to the Quirindi airport by ambulance.

The rescue helicopter's critical care medical team had landed at the strip and was waiting for the patient. He was given brown snake antivenom at the site.
The 49-year-old man was then airlifted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service to Tamworth hospital for further treatment just after midday.
Ambulance NSW paramedics and the chopper team told the Leader it was understood the man was in a stable condition at the time.
