Late on Monday night the school's principal Diana McGregor confirmed the news in a statement, with all staff and students asked to self-isolate until they receive further advice.
"Our school will be non-operational for the on-site attendance of students and staff to allow time for contact tracing and cleaning," she said in a statement.
There is currently no requirement for staff and students to get a COVID-19 test, unless they are unwell.
The news comes after three Wagga primary schools were closed last week due to similar COVID exposures, with more than 60 close contacts identified after someone in the Sacred Heart Primary School community tested positive.
The NSW Department of Education says it will continue to work closely with NSW Health to "ensure the health and safety of all students and staff is maintained" at Ashmont Public.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The safety and wellbeing of our staff and students is of paramount importance to us at all times," Mrs McGregor said.
"While we recognise this will be disruptive and inconvenient for families, it is important that we follow NSW Health advice and take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of further transmission to support our community."
Home learning resources will be available to students during this time, and the school says it will update the community "as soon as possible" when the contact tracing process has been completed.
