Mobile speed cameras returned to Wagga's streets in September after a two-month gap in enforcement and their numbers are likely increasing to make up for lost time.

Myers Automotive owner Gordon Campbell said he was issued three tickets for lowest-level speeding offences in less than a week from mobile cameras last month after more than 20 years with a clean driving record.

"It's the first fine I've had in over 20 years and I've been driving for over 40 years," he said.

"When I got the first one I thought I would write a letter and possibly get out of it, as I was more worried about the demerit points than the money, and then a couple of days later I got two more fines.

"I got one fine on the way to get a blood test and one on the way back on Fernleigh Road coming back to work; I got two fines in less than an hour."

Mr Campbell said it was quite busy time when he was driving and was just following the speed of other vehicles.

"Hundreds of other people must have been fined as well, I'm not trying to make excuses but I think people need to be aware," he said.

Wagga-based Nationals MLC Wes Fang said he had raised the issue of uneven fine impacts on regional drivers with Deputy Premier Paul Toole.

"I think there is some inequity in the way that it's currently operating and I have raised that with the Deputy Premier, who is also the Regional Roads Minister, and he has committed to taking the issue to cabinet," Mr Fang said.

Acusensus, the contractor providing mobile speed camera services in southern NSW, has now nearly tripled the number of enforcement hours on the road after having to scale back due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Transport for NSW deputy secretary for safety, environment and regulation said there was "no such thing as safe speeding".

"If you're going 10 kilometres per hour over the speed limit in a 60 km/h zone, you're four times more likely to be injured in a crash," she said.
