For the next two months, a rotating cast of members from Wagga's handmade community will be operating out of a pop-up shop at the Wagga Marketplace shopping centre.
A myriad of stalls have been set up inside the Handmade Local Wagga pop-up shop, selling everything from baby clothes and earings to candles and hampers of local produce.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Organiser of the pop-up Sharon Hagen said support from the community has already been fantastic, which she credits to Wagga's innate desire to support local.
"I think people want to keep the money in town and they want to show their support for the local businesses because they know it's been tough," Mrs Hagen said.
"The stallholders have been loving it as well because it's a chance for us to get our stuff out in a nice, bright retail environment and not have to worry about rain, dust, wind or anything like that."
Mrs Hagen said every item being sold in the pop up was produced in Wagga by someone from the area.
Some stalls will be set up in the shop for the full eight weeks while others will only be there for a week before being replaced by another local stall.
Rebecca Medhurst is one of the stallholders taking part and said it was great to bring handmade goods into the busy shopping centre.
"It gives great exposure to the local businesses and each business wouldn't individually be able to afford or have the stock to have a store in here so it's a great opportunity for the public to see what the local makers can do," Ms Medhurst said.
"We've had great responses from the public and it's only going to get better as we get closer to Christmas."
Deborah Wakeling launched Creative Corner earlier this year and is using her spot at the shop to sell handmade crafts and DIY kits for handmade Christmas presents.
"The people who come in truly want to support local businesses which is wonderful," Mrs Wakeling said.
"At Creative Corner we run creative workshops for people to do with their friends so I've been showing people the kinds of things you can do in a workshop and also selling DIY kits for Christmas presents so people can challenge their friends."
Mrs Wakeling launched the new workshops in the middle of COVID and said the pop-up shop was a great chance to mesh with the community and let them know about her new project.
The Handmade Local Wagga pop-up shop will be running from November 1 until December 24.
