A man aged in his 70s passed away at the Mercy Place aged care home, where he also acquired his infection.

"He had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and is the third death linked to an outbreak at this facility," the MLHD said.

The outbreak continues to spread swiftly through the border community, with 46 cases discovered in the Albury local government area [LGA] in the 24 hours to 8pm on Thursday.

The virus is making its way across the MLHD, with single cases also detected in the Wagga, Cootamundra-Gundagai, Murray River, Berrigan, Federation and Greater Hume LGAs.

The wait for exposure sites in the Riverina continues, with several government departments going dark on revealing venues of concern in the region.

Just one venue within the MLHD has been listed by NSW Health in the last week, despite several hundred new cases emerging in the district.

There have been seven confirmed cases of COVID in Wagga in the course of the outbreak, with Friday's being the fifth detected since Sunday.

Just over 400 people in Albury have contracted the virus in the course of this outbreak, accounting for the majority of the MLHD's 513 cases.

Sewage surveillance tests have returned positive results for fragments of the virus that causes COID-19 at treatment plants in Holbrook, Corowa and Mulwala overnight.

The interstate, trans-Tasman situation

A second consecutive positive result at the Leeton plant was announced yesterday, as well as one at Young.

There are no known COVID cases in those communities, and people in those areas are urged to monitor for symptoms and get tested if even the mildest ones appear.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, sore throat, cough, headache, runny nose, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches or pains, and a change in taste or smell.

Due to the high demand in testing, NSW Health encourages those who do not have symptoms and have not been directed to seek a test to refrain from doing so.

NSW Health reported 268 COVID-19 cases across the state on Friday morning.
