Of the new cases announced for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District [MLHD] for the 24 hours to 8pm on Wednesday, 24 were among residents of the Albury local government area [LGA].

Emma Field, the MLHD COVID coordinator, said three more detections were also made in the Murray River LGA, two in Greater Hume and one in Murrumbidgee.

Fragments of the virus have also recently been detected in sewage in Riverina towns.

Residents in these areas are advised to monitor for symptoms and get tested if they have even the mildest symptoms.

"We have had sewage detections in Wagga - which is understandable based on having cases - and also in Griffith," Ms Field said.

"We know we have had someone in Griffith in recent weeks, so that could be attributed to that however, we have had a sewage detection in Leeton that is of concern.

The MLHD has reached a vaccine milestone, as 94.4 per cent of residents 16 and older have received their dose while 81.9 per cent are now fully vaccinated.

More than 80 per cent of Wagga residents over the age of 15 are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and as of Monday, 83.4 per cent of Wagga residents had received their second dose of a COVID vaccine.

This is a rise of more than nine per cent, up from last weeks' figure of 76.4 per cent double-dosed.

The trend continues in the broader Riverina region, with more than 95 per cent of those over 15 having received their first dose of the vaccine, while 82.3 per cent are fully vaccinated, with the region ranked 21 out of 28 geographic areas across the state.

The rate is also increasing across Australia, with 74.1 per cent of people over 16 fully vaccinated. For help accessing a test, call the Murrumbidgee COVID-19 Hotline 1800 831 099.

The MLHD also urges the Edward River community to come forward for vaccination. The walk-in Pfizer Clinics will be available in the Edward River region next week.

Anyone currently experiencing, or who has recently experienced even mild cold-like symptoms is asked to come forward immediately for testing.

But, due to a high demand for testing, NSW Health is encouraging those who has no symptoms and have not been instructed to get a COVID-19 test, to avoid doing so.
