After a fifth in the three-year-old Breeders Challenge heats snapped a string of five placings, Henty trainer-driver Brooke McPherson was thrilled with his return to winning ways.
"He's getting up in the ratings system a bit now but he's probably gone the best he ever has," McPherson said.
"He just did it real easy.
"I know in his last couple of runs at Wagga we've been running quick times chasing good horses but he's been under the stick the whole way but he really picked the bit up and wanted to go and still broke two minutes for the 2100.
"That's pretty good around Leeton so I couldn't ask for much more."
Ultimate Hughey was able to defy a tricky barrier draw after starting from the outside of the second row.
McPherson took any luck out of the equation as she made an early move to sit outside the leader.
However the $1.55 chance had far too much on his rivals as he went on to win by 8.1 metres.
It was his third win of the season and now McPherson faces a more difficult task of trying to place the son of Sunshine Beach.
"He still gets his five point three-year-old claim to the end of the year so he'll get back to a 55 next start being a 60 rater but I think after that it is going to be very tough for him, especially around here but I don't want to send him away as I love him too much.
"He'll have a let up over Christmas as he's been up for almost 12 months believe it or not.
"It took him a long time to get fit but I think a month off might make him even better."
The Mountain was another to come out of the NSW Breeders Challenge to return to winning him.
The three-year-old also put in a tough effort, sitting without cover throughout before proving too strong for his rivals.
The Mountain finished seventh while Ultimate Hughey was fifth behind The Stain in their heat.
Shes A Caribbean was another to step out of NSW Breeders Challenge form who won at Leeton.
The two-year-old filly made it two wins on the trot her David Kennedy and Jackson Painting since a third in her heat.
