DEVELOPER BAN ON COUNCIL 'NOT SUCH A GOOD IDEA'
I read with interest the suggestion by Councillor Tim Koschel that developers should not be allowed to be members of local councils ("Call for developer decision", The Daily Advertiser, October 23).

If other council members do not support developments it is unlikely that anything untoward will occur.
I served on the council with the Kennedy and Hartwig development principals and found them to be ethical and genuinely concerned to care for Wagga.
Of course, they were subject to the perusal of the highly professional planning officers and ultimately to the council.
I recall when Neville Wran was asked if developers should be banned from council and he replied as follows: "It may be a good idea but if you believe in democracy it seems to be not such a good idea."
The thought occurs to me that Cr Koschel also disapproves of candidates standing as members of political parties. Who else would he like to exclude?

READER LOST IN ROADMAP TALK
Recently some wise politician (no - that's an oxymoron!) rather, ScoMo or Dangerous Dan or some other equally confused governmental authority, decided that for our citizens to have any chance of exiting this odious state of COVID lockdown and repression, we need a magical panacea.
This was born another bewitching buzzword: "roadmap." Now used by many and varied "experts".
Unfortunately, despite the dire need for this mystic graph, there has been, as yet, no catastrophic chart supplied to support this noble scheme and all we have had are more rousing words. Just dead ends.
Years ago, in NSW, we were fortunate to have a ready supply of roadmaps: regional, state, interstate and capital cities. All provided by the NRMA, available to members, gratis.

Then, with the advent of GPS and mobiles, the whole system was abandoned.
If our authorities really, seriously want a "roadmap", then some guru should approach the acknowledged roadmap experts, the NRMA, for some help.
I'm sure it would be given.
And we ordinary citizens would be grateful, (maybe not to the extent of re-electing them, but thankful anyway).

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR
Yvonne Rance ("Stand up and be counted", The Daily Advertiser, October 23) longs for leadership like that shown by Donald Trump, Tony Abbott and Mark Latham.
Latham has been described more than once as "mad as a cut snake." One of Abbott's nicknames was "The Mad Monk."
And worried about Trump's sanity, US Joint Chiefs Chair, General Mark Milley, ordered aides to not act immediately on any move to use US nuclear forces.
As the saying goes: "Flirting with madness is one thing; when madness starts flirting back, it's time to call the whole thing off."
Fortunately, this is exactly what the voting public did.
