The long-awaited Kooringal Road refurbishment will finally be completed in coming weeks after numerous delays but commuters are in for more than two months of diversions while it's happening.

The works will complete an ambitious, and delayed, upgrade of 2.55km of the major road that began in April.
On Friday, Council's Operations Director Warren Faulkner confirmed works will recommence on the final 800 metre stretch of road between Vincent Road and Zeigler Avenue from next Monday, with traffic to be impacted for more than two months.
"We're looking to have those works completed by Christmas, so from Monday Kooringal Road will be closed between Zeigler Avenue and Vincent Road for approximately 10 weeks," Mr Faulkner said.

"There will be some disruption to traffic coming into town so this is advanced notice to take alternative routes such as Lake Albert Road or Fey Avenue."
The Kooringal Road upgrade was a major undertaking, funded by a State roads grant of just over $2 million and promised to be completed by June 2021. Significant weather woes and a fast-tracked planning process, however, saw the project's budget blown out by over $900,000 and completion delayed by six months.
Residents expressed their frustrations earlier this year upon news of the delay to the works, after weeks of traffic diversions that will now be reimpose.
Mr Faulkner said council is confident that with warmer weather the delays experienced in July would not be repeated, and the road would be completed and open to traffic in time for the festive season.
Meanwhile, traffic on Lake Albert Road will also be disrupted in the coming week with upgrades between Lord Baden Powell Drive and Warrawong Street at the same time.
Mr Faulkner acknowledged the inconvenience of the south southern roads being impacted but said it would ultimately pay off for road quality in the city.
"There will be some disruptions on the major arterials leading from the south east of the city into town, so we ask for the communities patience and understanding as we undertake the works to improve the quality of the road," he said.
