Drivers have been warned to expect a lengthy closure of southbound lanes on the Hume Highway near Little Billabong following a two-truck collision in the early hours of Thursday morning.

It is understood there was an initial, two-truck collision 2km south of Kyeamba Gap on the Hume Highway around 5:15am this morning, and a third truck stopped to assist.

One driver was trapped in his vehicle and freed by emergency crews just after 7am, while two other men were treated for chest and neck injuries.

The third driver is believed to have been injured after exiting his vehicle to assist at the scene.

"Officers attached to Murray River Police District have been told a truck crashed and overturned, before being struck by a second truck," a NSW Police spokesperson said.

Police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following the accident, one man was taken by road to Albury Base Hospital and another to Wagga Base Hospital by road.

The man trapped in his vehicle was airlifted to Wagga Base once he was freed from the truck, and is believed to be in a stable condition.

Paramedics confirmed a man in his late 20s is in a stable condition while a man in his 60s was in a serious condition.

Fire and Rescue South Regional Zone Commander Stewart Alexander said Fire and Rescue crews were working to clear southbound lanes on the road just before 8am, all of which remain closed.

He anticipates it could be a lengthy process as one truck was believed to be carrying pesticides and all vehicles need to be moved.

"It'll be quite a lengthy incident by the time the investigation and clean up operation are done and of course these trucks will have to be moved so the road will be closed for some time," he said.

Northbound lanes are open with traffic control and reduced speeds in place.

SES crews, NSW Police, paramedics and the rural fire service also attended the scene.

Emergency services are working to free a man trapped in a vehicle following a two-truck collision on the Hume Highway near Little Billabong.

One as-yet unidentified person has been trapped in their truck following the crash, which was reported around 5:15am around 2km south of Kyeamba Gap.

The man has yet to be freed with paramedics, police, Fire and Rescue and RFS crews on site.

A second man in his 60s is being treated for lower leg injuries, while a third man in his 20s is being treated for chest injuries.

One patient has been transported to Albury Base hospital.

Turvey Park Fire and Rescue's 472 pump has been deployed to the area, reporting the incident is ongoing.

Traffic is affected on the highway in both directions according to Live Traffic, with diversion routes now in place.

Light vehicles are being diverted onto Tumbarumba Road, Little Billabong Road and the Hume Highway, while heavy vehicles and being diverted on the Sturt Highway, Olympic Highway and the Hume Highway.
