In the early 2000s Mr Allsopp wanted to help support Country Hope with the work they do, so began paying their rent.

After he payed their rent for many years, and went on to pay the mortgage on their Blake Street premises, Country Hope are now the proud owners of their brick and mortar property.

"Because we don't have to pay our mortgage we're able to spend that money on our families; helping with their rents and their mortgages, and fuel to get to and from their appointments," Country Hope general manager Ellie Webb said.

Country Hope was founded 16 years ago to support country children diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, and currently supports more than 200 families within a 200km radius of Wagga.

The team gathered with Mr Allsopp on Wednesday for a lunch to thank him for the ongoing support.

Mrs Webb said that mortgage support has been even more beneficial during the COVID-19 pandemic, with limited options for fundraisers meaning less income for the service.

Mr Allsopp said he wanted to "help out in any way he could", and rent assistance made the most sense - both with time constraints as a businessman, and wanting to help out behind-the-scenes.

He said it is "incredibly rewarding" to know he's helped Country Hope acquire their business premises, encouraging others to help support the important service.

"You just cannot believe the amount of work they do and the time and effort [they put in]," Mr Allsopp said.

"It's one thing to give money, but the time and effort the staff give is just amazing."

Mrs Webb said the long-term goal is to have enough money invested in the administration side of Country Hope so that "every cent" of donations can go to the families.
