Michael and Paul Lodge, sons of a former owner, have teamed up with another pair of brothers to revive the town's pub.
Michael Lodge said the Conargo Hotel, which was destroyed by fire in 2014, was his late father, Neville's, pride and joy for around 25 years, and construction is under way to open it.
"At the moment, the facade is being rendered, and the front verandah is being put in place," he said.
"The existing facade is part of the old building, and there was a lot of work done to maintain that.
"The roof trusses are up, and the roofing will soon go in. It will be the same colour as it was originally."
Mr Lodge said there was a focus on keeping the charm and features of the old building, such as the iconic whitewash.
But, when it comes to the interior, there is a focus on expansion.
"It will be bigger than the old hotel," Mr Lodge said.
"There is a fairly large function room, a dining room, bar, lounge and a commercial type kitchen, managers office, and two coolrooms.
"When it comes to the internal fit-out, a lot of the framing has been done inside the hotel. The electrician is probably going to start next week, and the coolrooms are going to be fitted within the next two weeks."
Mr Lodge has fond memories of the pub as it was where he and his brother grew up.
The pub, situated in the remote town 30 kilometres northeast of Deniliquin, was in the family until 1980 and was famous for its black and white Conargo Pub stickers, which can be seen on utes and vehicles across the country.

When asked how it feels to be back at the hotel fixing it up, Mr Lodge joked that it feels like "one hell of a job".
"It's a bit of deja vu. I grew up here, and I have friends here," he said.
"I saw it not long after it had burnt down, and my brother and I have always said that if we had the chance, we would rebuild it.
"There are three shares, so me, my brother Paul and the third share goes to two brothers Bob and Charlie White, and they are local shearing contractors and farmers who owned the pub."
The shareholders received the construction certificate at the end of April, and Mr Lodge is pleased with their progress.
"I hope to get it open around Easter time next year by the time we do all the internal fit-out," he said.
"There are so many people pulling in, and we spend a lot of time talking to people through the security fence, and we have at least 10 people a day calling in and stopping and taking photos.
"All the locals are excited. They want their hotel back, and that is what we are trying to do."
