Mclean, who has coached the Jets' A-reserves for three seasons, was set to make the step up in 2020 before the Farrer League season didn't go ahead, and her final year studying teaching again ruled her out this year.
"They asked me again this year but I was in my last year of uni and had a lot going on," she said.
"When I'm coaching I want to give 100 per cent commitment to it, which is why I didn't do it this year.""
"I found getting a lot of the girls to bond together was important, when we were all working as a team we played a lot better.
"That's one of the things I'll be working on for next year is having a lot of things even after the game to connect with the girls."
The 21-year-old feels she's more ready to step up to first grade coaching than she would have been two years ago.

Backing her judgement will be a major focus for the 21-year-old centre courter.
"I just need to work on being confident with my decisions. A lot of the time I know what I'm talking about, but sometimes I'm too scared to say it. It's about being confident in my opinions," she said.
The Jets finished fifth under coach Beth New this year, but were denied a chance to test themselves in finals after the season was cancelled.
"I think everyone was a lot more keen to get back on the court after a year off," Mclean said.
"A lot of people like myself, I haven't missed a season since I started playing at about eight years old.
