Tom Lamond replaces Elliot Barrett as the university's head coach.

After being an assistant to Barrett last season, Lamond is looking forward to the opportunity to put his own mark on things.

"I've been involved in a few football clubs but this one is a great club with a great culture and a great bunch of players so I thought it would be a good opportunity for me now that I've stopped playing to get involved in the coaching side of things," Lamond said.

"As a player you don't really need to deal with each player personally but one thing I've found as a coach is every player is different and while you coach the squad you have to work on every single player's attributes as well.

"Hopefully I can bring that in a bit more."

After coaching Ag College's women's side to the 2020 premiership, Barrett is moving to Queensland.

Ag College president Pat Lemmich is confident the 31-year-old is the right man to take his place.

Especially with his work as an assistant coach last season.

"He was great this year as an assistant in what was his first year coaching senior footy," Lemmich said.

"He would have learnt a fair bit from last year seeing where we went wrong in those few games we lost by quite a bit.

"Hopefully he's able to build on the season from last year as we are not losing many players.

"He should be able to build us as a squad."

After falling in consecutive grand finals to Waratahs, Ag College sat out the 2020 season due to COVID.

They only managed two wins in their return season, both narrow wins over CSU.

The Reddies failed to win a game.

However Lamond hopes the experience the young side gained will put them in good stead for years to come.

"Having that 2020 year off really did hurt the club," he said.

"The girls won the comp, which was huge, and they had another good year this year but with first grade, reserves and thirds it was tough having so many first and second years who hadn't played men's football before.

"It was tough but that's no excuse for us now as everyone has some footy under their belts and we're looking to get out there next year bigger and better."

Lamond isn't expecting a lot of turnover from the side.

However they will be without two key players. Players who have captained the side in their past two campaigns.

Both Matt Harris and reigning Bill Castle Medal winner Lochlan Ramm are moving on and Lemmich is looking to his young talent to step up in their absence.

"Making finals next year will be one of our big aims," he said.

"For a lot of those blokes it was their first year playing senior footy so hopefully that bit of experience will help them along a lot.

"Confidence will be a big thing as well."

Ag College are still on the lookout for coaches in their other grades, with preparations expected to ramp up with university returns next year.
