Yeates, who also played for Wagga City Wanderers in this year's National Premier League ACT Two competition, has stepped down after about 18 months in the role.
He feels it is important for Football Wagga to continue it's recent approach of employing a young person for the job.
"I wouldn't say it was tough, but it was a great challenge," Yeates said.
"I think having a young person in the role is crucial to get along with the kids, they seem to be able to relate to you a bit easier.
"It was something different, and something I really enjoyed."
"There's plenty of good players around in the junior bases and it's looking very positive."
Yeates said seeing young players stay involved in the sport after dipping their toe in the water through Football Wagga initiatives was one of the more satisfying aspects.

"My favourite thing has been travelling to the schools to be honest, even going to out of town schools and seeing kids who've never played before have a run," he said.
"You see them playing for one of their local clubs later on, and you know that stemmed from first trying it at school."
Yeates added keeping players in the game after several COVID enforced layoffs is another priority.
"The new person just needs to continue to promote the game in all sorts of different ways, whether that's the elite program at the Wanderers or otherwise," he said.
"It's about keeping players involved. Over the last two years players have had more time off than usual."
