Despite only playing 11 games, Castles still polled enough votes (72) to edge out centre-half back Ryan Price (69), with Ethan Schiller and Ryan Turnbull both finishing with 68.
Castles polled strongest in the first half of the season, where he finished with a league-high 71 goals in his second campaign for the Goannas.
He has already confirmed he will return to the club for next year's quest to end their flag drought, and said he was surprised to pick up his fifth career best and fairest.
"I thought Ryan Turnbull would have won it but I think they (Canberra-based players) went into lockdown and couldn't play the last couple of games," Castles said.
"I enjoy the people there at the club and it's really benefited my footy. It's been one of my more enjoyable years, so that reflects on my goals and it obviously helps having a gun midfield to get it to me as well.
Having Rowey (Jeremy Rowe) as a coach, everyone's bought into his plans and he's signed on again. Everyone enjoys it there and it's a tight knit community really. Everyone just wants to play footy together."
