After it was revealed that a member of the Kildare Catholic College community had tested positive for the virus, attending the school for one day during their infectious period, demand for local testing surged.

As of Friday morning, 665 COVID-19 tests were undertaken as a response to the new case.

"That's a massive response for people to get through 600 tests," MLHD executive director of medical services Dr Len Bruce said.

"Once again the community has supported us as they've done for the last 18 months."

COVID coordinator Emma Field said the health district is "urging anyone who has been identified as a casual or a close contact to please come forward for testing".

So far NSW Health has identified approximately 90 close contacts who are in isolation, and a further 100 casual contacts.

Casual contacts are required to get a test on day three and five from the date of exposure, and isolate until they return a negative result.

Ms Field also said anyone with even the mildest of symptoms is encouraged to come forward and get tested.

Along with the Equex Centre, open seven days from 10am to 6pm, there is also testing available at 84-86 Murray Street, 8 Tanda Place, and the Laverty drive-through clinic at the Riverina Playhouse carpark.
