Luff won his second Weissel Medal in 2019 with the honour not handed out in last year's shortened season.

However he thinks Mitch Cornish will get the nod when the tally is revealed online on Friday night.

"Mitch Cornish is my front runner," Luff said.

"I just think Tumut will have a lot of contenders, Lachlan Bristow had a big year as well as Ron Leapai, who had a massive year but also had a fair few weeks off during the season, and Tumut being such a competitive side they would have taken a lot of points off each other while Mitch has been the dominant player for Young this year.

"I think he would have held the limelight fairly well."

The Young captain trailed Tumut recruit Ron Leapai by one vote when the tally was released after eight rounds.

Leapai was on 11 votes, but missed a number of games at the back end of the season.

Cornish had a one-vote buffer over Cherrypickers teammate Jayke Hogan while Albury forward Jon Huggett was on eight votes, one ahead of Kangaroos forward Luke Ingram and Tumut centre Tolo Aroha-Tuinauvai.

Luff was disappointed there was no Weissel Medal handed out last season.

However he did admit not being able to complete the season may leave an asterisk on this year's winner.

"I'm happy for there to be a Weissel Medal this year although in saying that it might be a bit of a funny one for the fact that everyone didn't play the same amount of games," Luff said.

"It is probably a little unfair in ways as someone like a Dane O'Hehir, who is a gun for Gundagai week-in, week-out, played two less games than Tumut.

"Dane could have gotten points in those games to be right up there in the scheme of things.

"The fact there is not an even playing field will be more profitable for other teams than for Gundagai for instance but I think to reward someone for a successful year is just this year.

"It would be good to see someone get a Weissel Medal again."

Group Nine are having a staged release of their best and fairest winners from across the five grades.

Brothers playmaker Madison Dunn was revealed as the leaguetag winner on Thursday.

After taking on the coaching role last season, Dunn returned to the field in fine form as she finished four points clear of Temora's Courtney McCrone and Shannon Pike (Kangaroos).

Junee's Kye Wright claimed the Weissel Cup honour, finishing four votes clear of Young's Mitch Prest and Penieli Faoa (Brothers).

Temora's Jed Reardon took out the nod in the Sullivan Cup holding off Sam Gash (Kangaroos) to win by three votes.
