"She had serious underlying health conditions and required transfer to Melbourne where she was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit."
The woman had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
This is the first death in the MLHD linked to the current outbreak of COVID-19, and the second death in the district since the pandemic began.
"Murrumbidgee Local Health District extends our sincere condolences to the woman's family and loved ones, and the whole Edward River community," the spokesperson said.
The MLHD also reported one new confirmed case of COVID to 8pm last night in a person who is also a resident of the Edward River LGA.
The new case is linked to a known case and is currently being cared for at Wagga Base Hospital. This brings the total number of cases in the Edward River LGA to four.
