Police said emergency services were called to a property on Woomargama Way on Saturday at 9.45pm after reports the teenager had been run over by a vehicle.

An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said four ambulances attended the scene and a helicopter was also called.

But the boy tragically died at the scene.

The spokesperson said the teen had been trapped under the vehicle and appeared to have fallen off the back of a ute in an accident.

Police said officers from the Murray River district established a crime scene and began an investigation.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A 6-year-old boy died in an unrelated incident at midday the same day on Holbrook Road, near Mangoplah.

A statement from police said it was believed the driver of a Mitsubishi Triton was heading north on Holbrook Road when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

The boy was a passenger in the car.

Police are urging anyone who might have seen the vehicle before the crash - or who might have dash-camera or CCTV footage from the area - to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Greater Hume Council mayor Heather Wilton said she was deeply saddened by the news.

"Any accident that results in the death of a family member is devastating and I just can't imagine how they would be feeling," she said.

"But I do offer my sincere condolences to the families of these two young people."

Cr Wilton said it was a reminder for people to be careful on rural roads and properties.

"We're talking about young people's lives," she said.

"And any life lost is just devastating for family and friends and communities.

"I'm just devastated."
