Mick and Vicki Creed have owned and operated M&V 2nd Hand Furniture since April 2003 on the corner of Bourke and Urana streets.
It all started because the couple had an interest in secondhand goods, but they never expected it would be their full-time job for more than 15 years.
"When the opportunity turned up, we just grabbed it with both hands," Mr Creed said. "When we started, we were doing six days a week, and we did that for a long time, and then we reduced it to five days."
The couple said they had made some fantastic friendships throughout the years as they met people from all "walks of life".
Mr Creed said many of their products came into their possession when someone was moving away and wanted to sell their furniture or when a relative would be clearing out a deceased's estate.
IN OTHER NEWS:
He said there was a misconception that the business of selling secondhand furniture could not be successful. Mr Creed said it was all about understanding the fine line between the worth of a product and what people are willing to pay.
"I didn't mind spending money to buy quality because it always sells," he said.
"But there is a trap some fall into where they think 'this is easy' and they keep putting up the prices and then after a couple of years, they have to close. Then they say, 'you can't make money out of secondhand' but you can."
Mrs Creed said they wanted to retire now to spend more time with their grandchildren and great-grandchild.
"We will just work it out as days go by," she said. "We are looking to having more time with the family, though."
Mr Creed said while it was not the sole reason, the lockdown that kicked off on August 14 made the decision to close the business a lot easier.
"The lease was coming to an end, and we thought 'do we want to be here another year'," he said. "Our last day is October 13."
The husband and wife thanked Wagga residents for all their support throughout the years.
