This announcement follows an earlier decision by organisers to postpone the event from September to November in the hope borders would reopen before the end of spring.
Wagga Show Society president Robert Hamilton said unfortunately "this has not been the case" in a statement released on Friday afternoon.
"This was not an easy decision to make, however with still so much uncertainty all around Australia, we felt there was no other choice," Mr Hamilton said.
"The health and safety of our members, volunteers, exhibitors and the community is most important."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Show Society general secretary Greg Pritchard, who took on the role in April this year, said no doubt the cancellation would leave many people disappointed.
"I was quite comforted when we postponed it because a lot of people were posting on Facebook about how great it was that we hadn't cancelled because it was important to them, and they were looking forward to coming," Mr Pritchard said.
"I think now that we've cancelled, while people will understand the difficult times that we're operating in, I think a lot of people will be very disappointed that it's not going ahead."
Mr Pritchard said the three-stage roadmap out of lockdown, which was released by the NSW government earlier this week, further complicated the situation.
"Our major act, which was Casey Barnes who is on the Gold Coast, was not going to be able to come, along with several traders that would have been coming down from Sydney and a few acts out of Melbourne," Mr Pritchard said.
"Another thing was, Albury and Queanbeyan cancelled, and we were hoping that the showies would go from Albury to here and then to Queanbeyan.
"That would mean running a much lesser event, but some of the things that make the show popular are the rides and the showies."
