On Thursday the Murrumbidgee Local Health District reported one new case of the virus in the Hilltops LGA, bringing the total number of cases in the council area to 19 since the outbreak began.

The new Hilltops case announced today is a household contact of a previously reported case, and is in home isolation.

The MLHD's executive director of medical services Dr Len Bruce said the source of the outbreak is "unfortunately" still unknown.

"It's once again a process that takes time and at the moment we don't have the result of that genomic sequencing for the Young outbreak," he said.

The Hilltops LGA was first plunged into lockdown two weeks ago, with a snap seven-day lockdown announced after a positive case of the virus was confirmed in the area.

An additional 17 cases were confirmed during that week so NSW Health announced the lockdown would be extended for another seven days, making it a 14-day lockdown.

The stay-at-home orders will now be lifting from 12.01am on Friday.

In total across the MLHD there has been 26 confirmed COVID-19 cases during the current outbreak, including the 19 in Hilltops and an additional seven in the Albury LGA.

There are currently four people from the Hilltops LGA being cared for at Wagga Base Hospital, with one in the ICU.

An additional two COVID patients are being cared for at Wagga Base Hospital from the Wollongong area.
