Thomas' decision to make a rare trip to a Wagga night meeting paid off as Sinister ($12) claimed the Conquest Pools NR 42 Pace (2270m).
It was a successful night for the two-year-olds at Wagga on Tuesday night, with three talented juveniles enjoying wins on the eight-race card.
Sinister was one of two to take on the older horses with success as Blake Jones timed his run from back in the field to perfection, downing race leader Fredee Tee ($2.50) by a metre.
It was Sinister's first try at the longer 2270m trip and Thomas was confident that would work in his horse's favour.
"He's a nice big horse. He goes alright," Thomas said.
"I only took him over there (on Tuesday night) because those sires are coming up and he would probably need the run. I don't go to many night meetings now, I'm a bit bloody old.
"He goes alright. He's no champion. I just thought the distance would suit him, a bit longer."

Sinister, who now boasts three wins from seven starts, recorded a winning mile rate of 1:59.4.
Thomas believes he won't be out of place in the better two-year-old races, but expects the horse to improve as a three-year-old.
"I think he'll go alright. He's got a bit of bottom," he said.
"He's so big and still learning. He drives good, he doesn't pull or anything, he just hasn't clicked yet. He's still learning."
The win was Thomas' second for the week after Admirable lived up to his short-price quote last Friday when he won his first Australian start.
It was also a second win for owner Michael Boots, who races both Sinister and Admirable.
Admirable will go around at Wagga again this Friday, where he is drawn gate three in a competitive NR 55 Pace (1740m).
"He goes good, really good. I'm really happy with him," Thomas said.
"It's a really good field but he'll keep them honest. I really do like him. He's got a bit of bottom."
Thomas will also have Run Business Run in action at Wagga on Friday.
