The retention of the prolific goalkicker, who booted 71 in 11 games, continues a strong retention period for the Goannas, who have locked up most of their locally-based key players for 2022.
MCUE had position themselves well to shoot for a first premiership since 1993 by winning 13 of 15 games, before the league was cancelled before finals could be played.
Castles told The Daily Advertiser earlier this month his strong relationship with coaches and the playing group, combined with how the club has looked after his family, were major reasons to stay.

"Their understanding with my work and family commitments and the fact I have to travel, actually caring about my personal life is a big factor," he said.

"I just want some stability and I feel comfortable there. Hopefully I can get a few more games next year and kick a few more goals, to kick 100 for them would be nice."
A chance to be a part of club history by ending their drought was also enticing.
