A dedicated dog park on the corner of Yenda Avenue and Paradise Drive is nearing completion with internal and external fencing and agility equipment already installed, and is already a popular spot for local dog owners.

At this evening's General Council Meeting, councillors approved a recommendation to declare the park as a dog off-leash area which will be restricted to daylight hours only.

Resident Shantal Armstrong and her golden retriever Polly are already fans of the space. Ms Armstrong said the decision to approve off-leash space will be welcomed by the community.

"It will be popular from what we've heard, there are lots of dogs in the area, most people would have a dog whether they are single or families," she said.

"It has [already] been popular with people in Gobba and people from other suburbs because it's the biggest off leash area we've got around in Wagga."

Fellow resident Holly Moynihan agreed, saying the park is "booming" and she imagines it will only get more popular.

"Its super interactive in Gobba so having an off leash area with other dogs will be lovely for the area," she said.

Both dog owners said a safe area where their pooches can meet and socialise with other animals will be a boon for the suburb and for the dogs.

"Having the off leash area is really important so our dog can meet other dogs and be social and be happy," Miss Moynihan said.

"It's good for them to get socialising skills so they're more friendly with kids and other animals," Mrs Armstrong agreed.
