Bovey arrives at the Bulldogs on the back of an accomplished career in New Zealand, as well as experience playing in England.

The 26-year-old has twice won The Marlborough Express' Club Cricketer of the Year trophy, where he has proven capable for Wairau Valley with both bat and ball.

A top order batsman and left arm spin option, Bovey will be a welcome addition to the Bulldogs, according to new coach Sam Perry.

"He's going to be a really good addition for us," Perry said.

"We haven't seen too much of him yet. He played in England, and a pretty high standard in NZ. It will be good to have someone new, someone fresh in the team."

Bovey's arrival will be a timely one as Wagga RSL look to cover the loss of former captain Todd Henderson to Albury.

"Toddy is a huge loss. He's been the heartbeat of our top order for the last few years. It's very sad to see him go but a good opportunity for him," Perry said.

While the arrival of Bovey will help, Perry believes there is also opportunity for a number of incumbent Bulldogs.

"It does set up a great opportunity for someone to step up and cement themselves in the top order," he said.

"We need to be a bit more consistent and score bigger totals. It is the perfect opportunity for batters to step up and win games in first innings."

Perry named the likes of Brad McMillan, Ethan Perry, Charlie Cull and Jack Carey as players he hoped to stand tall in Wagga RSL's top order this season.
