Undeterred, library staff have gotten creative with ideas for kids during the school holidays.
SEEK (Science Encounter & Experience for Kids) is a program that develops early science literacy skills, such as problem-solving, researching, patience and perseverance.
Pre-schoolers and children in Years K-2 are invited to pick up a free SEEK take-home kit from the library before Thursday September 30.
The kit contains instructions and materials for five science experiments, and a list of common kitchen ingredients needed to complete them.
A livestream show from the presenters of TwistED Science at 10am, Thursday September 30 will demonstrate some of the experiments from the kit and be full of other exciting activities to inspire young minds.
Tickets for the SEEK livestream are free, and available through the library's What's On page at waggalibrary.com.au
While visiting the library, be sure to take in the Microscopia exhibition, a display of microscope photography by Years K-6 students from Humula, Tarcutta and Uranquinty Public Schools.
Running until Sunday October 3, Microscopia was funded by a Wagga Council Community Grant (Science Technology, Engineering & Math), awarded to the Country Women's Association Uranquinty Evening Branch, and a series of workshops by Charles Sturt University teaching and research staff.
Inspire Australia funded the printing of the exhibited works.
Primary school-aged readers are also encouraged to ask staff for an "I've Been Reading" sheet, to fill in with their words and pictures, and hand back for display in the library's Children's Area.
For more information, visit the What's On page at waggalibrary.com.au, phone 6926 9700, or talk to library staff.
Library patrons are reminded that the library will be closed on Friday October 1, for Union Picnic Day and Monday October 4, for the Labour Day Public Holiday.
