Crews from the Rural Fire Service and Coolamon Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the Berry Jerry home at 10:18pm on Tuesday following reports of a blaze behind a wood-burning stove.
Coolamon Fire and Rescue's acting commander Neil Reid said the flames had escaped the fireplace and were threatening to travel up the chimney into the roof when crews arrived.

Rural Fire Service personnel were the first on the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze before any serious damage could be done.
Acting commander Reid said there was an under-construction home beside the house and if the fire had been worse both could have been completely destroyed.
He said there was minimal damage from the fire but "a fair bit" of water damage in the lounge room.
"Everyone was onto it pretty quick and thankfully there was just a little bit of damage to the house," Mr Reid said
"There was a house under construction right beside it and if that had caught on fire it would have been really bad and they would have lost that too."
