Transport for NSW has released its concept designs and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) report for the Olympic Highway intersections at Old Narrandera Road and Travers Street.
The key features on the updated Old Narrandera Road intersection design include additional lanes between the intersection and the Boorooma Street ramps, and two turning lanes from Old Narrandera Road onto the highway.
Under the plans, the Travers Street intersection will be moved south for better access and traffic efficiency.
Wagga MP Joe McGirr said the designs would improve the "dangerous" intersection at Old Narrandera Road while allowing for a future duplication of Gobbagombalin Bridge.
"At Travers Street [the design] is about improving access on to the Olympic Highway. I'm assured that these solutions will not affect the flow of traffic, as I know that is an issue that people have had," he said.
"I welcome feedback from the community as it's important we get this right.
"Based on the feedback we had before, we've asked [Transport for NSW] to come back with different options...I think it's now probably the time that we have got to move ahead but I'm interested in what the community has to say."
NSW Regional Transport and Roads Minister Paul Toole said the concepts were designed to address the community's safety and traffic flow concerns with the two intersections.
"We know this is an important project to locals and we've listened to them to help deliver safer, more efficient intersections at either end of the Gobbagombalin Bridge," Mr Toole said.
"This involved re-investigating whether upgrading the intersections to traffic lights was the best option, and we've confirmed that it delivers the best combination of road user safety, traffic efficiency and performance."
