Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to the property on Yambil Street, Griffith, at 7.30pm on Friday.

Duty commander Matt Hunter said that when firefighters arrived, the back of the house was "well alight", and they were told someone may have gone back into the building.

"Crews accepted a high-level risk and entered the house, exposing themselves to great danger, to conduct a search," he said.

"Police were able to confirm that it was a misreport, and no one had entered the house, but our crews had conducted a search, and the house was vacant."

The blaze took about 40 minutes to bring under control with assistance from Griffith, Yenda and Leeton FRNSW crews.

Investigations into the fire are ongoing.

Inspector Hunter said the region had battled many house fires, particularly in that area of Griffith, in recent months.

"House fires are really dangerous because there are so many different scenarios that can cause injury and death," he said.

"We encourage people not to re-enter a fire.

"Do not go back in. It places you and firefighters at risk at a greater level of risk."
