On Tuesday morning NSW Health's Dr Jeremy McAnulty provided an update on the ongoing outbreak, revealing that there were 1,127 new cases of COVID-19.
There were an additional eight acquired overseas, and one acquired in Victoria.
In the same time frame there were also 114,084 COVID tests conducted across the state.
In terms of vaccination, the state has now hit 78.8 per cent of people over 16 who are vaccinated with one dose.
46.5 per cent of the over-16 population as had both doses of the vaccine.
"These are great numbers and serving us well to help combat this pandemic," Dr McAnulty said.
To 8pm on Monday night there were two deaths related to COVID-19.
This includes a woman in her 80s who had one dose of the vaccine and had underlying health conditions, and a man in his 50s with no underlying conditions who received his first vaccine dose three days before testing positive.
There have been 186 COVID related deaths in NSW since June 16, and 242 since the pandemic began.
Additionally, there are currently 1,235 patients with COVID in hospitals across NSW. This includes 231 in intensive care, and 104 on ventilation.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Dr McAnulty also revealed there has been further positive detection of COVID in sewage in Young, where there are no known cases of the virus.
"There's been no cases reported in Young so we're just urging everyone in that community, or [who] have been in that community, to come forward for even the mildest of symptoms so if there are cases there in the community, we can identify those quickly," he said.
In Yass a case of COVID was this week diagnosed following positive sewage detection, with the region now re-entering lockdown for two weeks.
"It's too early to know if we're flattening the curve but we're seeing pleasingly so far that cases haven't been increasing as fast as they have been, but there may be an effect of the weekend," Dr McAnulty said.
"We'll look to see whats happening throughout the rest of this week to know how we're going."
On Monday, Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced 1257 new local cases of COVID-19 and seven deaths.
