Lawton is the Ganmain TAB account holder that drew a slot in the Kosciuszko on Thursday.
He purchased the ticket on behalf of his work punters club and will share the ride with five other mates.
Lawton, understandably, is already excited and the race is still over a month away.
"I didn't realise how big of a thing it was until (Thursday)," Lawton said.
"Racing NSW sent through a sheet with some of the numbers. Then you start dreaming and think, 'imagine if we won'. It will be a good next six weeks."
Lawton's fellow punters club members reside across the state. They usually each have a $20 bet on a Saturday but one week decided to buy Kosciuszko tickets instead.
It was long forgotten for Lawton, until a missed call and voicemail hit his phone on Thursday.

"I didn't even realise the draw was on, like racing people would have," he explained.
"I like having a bet, I have a bet on the weekend, it's a bit of fun. I felt like Charlie off Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with the golden ticket.
"All our blokes were excited. I rang all the other guys up and they didn't believe it. I said, I'm fair dinkum mate, I'll send you the email I just got."
Lawton and his punters club are yet to decide on a horse to represent them in the sprint at Randwick on October 16.
They held discussions initially on Friday and were then going to discuss their options again on Monday.
"We're having a phone hook up to see what we're doing. There's been a couple of blokes, trainers, that have rang us already," he said.
"I've had a quick look. There's a fair few there. it will be like negotiating the old footy contracts.
"It will be good, I'm looking forward to it. We're living the dream if we end up being allowed to go to the races in Sydney if COVID is all fixed up. What a day that would be, hey."
