A combination of pleasant weather and more of a sense of freedom, allowed Wagga's eating and drinking establishments to hit a high note with locals over the weekend.

Thomas Blamey Tavern owner Ms Michelle Staunton is one of the many publicans rejoicing about people being out and about, taking advantage of the lockdown being lifted.

"Saturday was really busy, it was good," Ms Staunton said.

"But because of the four square metres rule we had to knock back a lot of dining bookings.

"We only had half of the amount of people we can take in the bistro.

"We just finished our renovations in time and we had a really busy day."

Ms Staunton was pleased to see the smiles on her customers' faces.

"Everyone was really happy and lively," she said.

"They could stand up outside in the beer garden and they didn't need to wear masks.

"People took advantage of what was a glorious day and were enjoying themselves."

The Palm and Pawn Hotel was another location where Wagga's locals of all ages enjoyed a sense of freedom.

Mitch Huthwaite and Jake Condron celebrated their combined 30th birthday party at the hotel on Sunday.

Mr Huthwaite said his birthday was a few weeks ago while Mr Condron's birthday is approaching soon.

"It made sense to combine them and have something today (Sunday)," Mr Condron said.

"It's good to be back at the pub, we don't mind a schooner."

Wagga teenagers Seth Passlow, 19 and Will Hughes, 18, were also enjoying their release from lockdown.

"It feels good and it has been a long time coming," Mr Hughes said.

"It's pretty good getting back to the pub for a schnitty."

Mr Passlow echoed his mate's sentiments.

"I'm loving it that everyone is back together," he said.

"We were all ringing around in the middle of the week to organise something for all our friends, we couldn't wait.

"We all just need to stay safe and do what you're supposed to do and follow the guidelines."

Age was no barrier in halting Barbara Parnell, 95, from letting her hair down following lockdown.

She organised to have lunch with her daughter-in-law Susan Parnell and her great niece Annabel Adams.
