Wagga City Council has teamed up with the Australian Esports League to deliver a family-friendly tournament set to launch early next month.
Esports and video game content is currently the fastest-growing entertainment industry in the world.
Wagga mayor Greg Conkey has welcomed the return of the online event, which will provide a COVID-safe environment for participants.
"The pandemic has thrown its challenges at our community, but hosting the Riverina Cup again this year is another opportunity to get involved in an activity which is sure to be a lot of fun," Councillor Conkey said.
"Esports is an extremely large global industry, and this tournament is a chance for the Riverina to log on and earn some exposure on the national platform."

The competition will kick-off on October 5 and offer a $1400 prize pool, with heats set to be broadcast live each Tuesday evening of the competition.
Gamers will compete in teams playing first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and vehicular soccer game Rocket League.
Australian Esports League director Darren Kwan said his team is delighted to continue nurturing the growth of esports in the Riverina and regional communities.
"This is encouraging healthy participation and community engagement through esports," Mr Kwan said.
Those interested can register for the tournament online with two games chosen to cater to most skill levels.
The competition will be geo-locked to ensure access is granted to players across the Riverina only.
