The Boiled Lollies have lost since just missing out on finals in 2019.
The closest they have come this year were a 19-0 win over Griffith in round seven and a 45-26 win over Waratahs in round 12, the team they will face in the grand final if restrictions ease on September 10.
Assistant coach Steven Tracey hopes they'll get one last chance to be able to lift the trophy at Conolly Rugby Complex on September 25.
If not Southern Inland's decision not to award the premiership will be a bitter pill to swallow.
"We want to be playing and if there is not going to be a winner at the end it is pretty much a pointless year," Tracey said. "You obviously want to have a grand final or it's almost a waste of time."
For now Wagga City are just hanging out for any latest news.
"Whenever we see something about COVID it is in the chat straight away and all the boys are just panicking as we will want to play footy," Tracey said.
"Everyone is ready to go so we're hoping we can get a game."

He's also after another shot at getting on back over former club Waratahs.
Tracey was part of their 2016 premiership before making the switch to Group Nine club Southcity, where he won the 2017 grand final.
Tracey returned to rugby with Wagga City last year but has played a much bigger role since shifting to fullback this year.
While desperate to finish the season, Tracey admitted he's taken a casual approach to training, confident his work as a concreter keeps him in good enough shape.
That would change if Southern Inland is giving the green light and there are plenty within the club doing the hard yards in lockdown.
"A few of the boys have been flat out with Dylan (McLachlan) doing crossfit at their house, Pita (Herangi) got an exercise bike but work is good enough for me," Tracey said.
"I'm a concreter so I'm always doing something with fitness but I probably should start running just in case."
