A man has been slapped with a $5000 fine after allegedly spitting on a police officer who was arresting another person.

About 4.30pm, officers attached to Murray River Police District attended a home on Wellington Street, Deniliquin, to arrest a person on an outstanding warrant.
Upon arrival, two other men at the premises allegedly became aggressive towards the police.
As officers were placing the arrested person into the police vehicle, allegedly one of the men spat on a male constable.

The 22-year-old was issued with an infringement notice for not comply with noticed direction for spitting/coughing and fined $5000.
This incident comes after a woman from Deniliquin allegedly coughed on a police officer, claiming she had a COVID-19.
The woman was given a warning about using offensive language but failed to comply and was issued an infringement.
