Sturt Mall thief is guilty of threatening security guard

A 42-year-old Wagga woman charged with a number of knife and stealing offences has faced Wagga Local Court.Jennifer Edith Axam, from Tolland, pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an incident at the Sturt Mall but has pleaded not guilty to a second set of charges stemming from alleged events at the Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre.Police charged Axam earlier this month with shoplifting, intimidation, wielding a knife in a public place, common assault and threaten injury to prevent investigation over the Sturt Mall incident.Axam yesterday pleaded guilty to threatening a security guard with a 20cm knife after she stole items from one of the centre's stores.Charges of trespassing, custody of a knife and possession of suspected stolen goods were also laid after the 42-year-old allegedly stole items at the Oasis and entered Big W, despite being banned.Pleas of not guilty were entered in relation to that set of charges on her last appearance, last week.All matters will return to Wagga Local Court on April 6 for sentencing and hearing respectively.A full pre-sentence report has been ordered after magistrate Tony Murray viewed Axam's criminal record, which includes knife offences dating back to 1997.
