An essential worker from outside the Murrumbidgee Local Health District visited locations in Temora and Beckom while potentially infectious on August 16 and 17.
The person was asymptomatic and underwent regular routine testing, and they are now isolating outside of the MLHD while contact tracing has identified three venues in Temora and Beckom.
Anyone who attended the venues at the same dates and times is now a casual contact and must get tested and isolate until a negative test result is received. These include:
- Temora Shell Service Station on August 16, from 6.15am to 6.30am
- Temora French Hot Bread on August 16, from 6.15am to 6.35am and August 17, from 5.55am to 6.10am.
- Temora Wylies Newsagency on August 16, from 4.34pm to 4.50pm
- BP Beckom Roadhouse on August 16, from 1.10pm to 1.35pm and August 17, from 9.40am to 9.55am
During a press conference with regional media outlets, Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the exposure was concerning, as it could hinder efforts to release parts of regional NSW from the lockdown.
"If we were going to have a local government approach, as I said previously an LGA [by] LGA approach, it does bother me and worries me because with exposure sites you need time," he said.
"I've spoken here before about a 14 day incubation period [and] to have an exposure today - what is it, Tuesday - doesn't give us a lot of time to understand exactly what's occurred there."
Mr Barilaro said the new exposure sites in the region would be considered when deciding "what happens on Saturday".
IN OTHER NEWS:
John Wylie, the owner of the newsagency visited by the person, said the staff members impacted have been tested and are isolating awaiting their results.
He said they had been told about the case on Tuesday morning and had enacted all necessary protocols.
"I think we will be OK as we have strict guidelines in the shop with cleaning, masks, and a screen between the staff and customers, and that was where the customer was," Mr Wylie said.
"The customer was also wearing a mask."
Mr Wylie said he wanted to use this time to reinforce the message from the premier and health authorities for residents to "get the jab".
Temora mayor Rick Firman said it was critical for the community to remain "alert but not alarmed".
He said residents and businesses had been "outstanding" in their compliance with public health orders.
"This individual was at those business premises very early in the morning and only for a short time," Councillor Firman said.
"I have rung those three Temora businesses, and they are fantastic, and they have been very proactive in cleaning.
"We also wish this individual who is an essential worker good health and a swift recovery."
Cr Firman said the council would work with the MLHD in any way they need with testing sites, adding that Temora residents were a "resilient mob".
A spokesperson for the Temora Shell site said all their staff have had their first vaccine dose and were not showing any symptoms.
They urged residents to keep following the rules.
The MLHD said venues are currently being assessed by the Public Health Unit to ensure accurate assessment of staff risk and determine if any had close contact with the case.
"SMS messages will be sent to people who checked in with the QR code," a statement said.
"The MLHD is also urging anyone in Temora or Beckom, or who has been in Temora or Beckom recently, to get tested if they have even the slightest of symptoms and isolate until they receive a negative result."
Mobile testing will be set up tomorrow at the Temora Town Hall from 9am to 4pm, and the BP Beckom Roadhouse from 10am to 3pm.
There will also be clinics at Coolamon hospital from 12pm to 3pm, and at Toppy Hall, West Wyalong from 10am to 4pm.
