It helped alleviate some of the despair that many people are feeling at our government's response to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 6th Assessment Report.
In the face of the report's red code alert, our dishonest Prime Minister and the always glib Angus Taylor continued rattling off the same old talking points.
Blame someone else, in this case the developing countries, including China (even though our per capita carbon dioxide emissions are many times higher than theirs), continue exporting our coal and gas (instead of emissions reducing technology) to anyone who will buy them and endlessly repeat the mindless mantra of "technology not taxes".
Many organisations, from the CSIRO to the AEMO have developed plans that show that we already have the clean technology to move rapidly to net zero emissions.
And any new technology that we develop will be largely paid for by public money - witness the $600 million being given to the old technology and pointless Kurri Kurri gas-fired power station.
The big company fossil fuel vandals have bought and subverted our democracy.
Even in the face of solid popular, scientific and economic support for a rapid shift to renewables and 100 per cent emissions reduction by no later than 2050, this government keeps playing the tunes that their masters are paying for.
The NSW Liberal-National government's clear and progressive climate policies have shown the way forward.
If Morrison cannot lead, he should at least have the sense to follow.

QUESTIONS OVER RACIAL ABUSE
Why aren't we told what Tex Walker said?
Was it so egregious that we needed protection from reading it?
Alternatively, was the offence taken out of all proportion to the offence delivered?
Society is diminished when the privileged people in the press, the universities, the public service and the AFL control what we read, say and think.

EXPOSING 'INTRIGUING ANOMALY'
It is an interesting viewpoint in the letter to the editor headed "Religious leaders out of sync".
Some facts need to be remembered. While suicide has been decriminalised in NSW it is an offence to incite or counsel someone to suicide. Offenders can be liable to five to 10 years in gaol.
It is an intriguing anomaly in Australia that we want the right to round off someone's life because they are ill, but we keep alive criminals and look after their health.
We still look after Martin Bryant who killed 35 persons at Port Arthur and Ivan Milat (until his death) who murdered, tortured and raped no less than five women and two men.

DEATH DATA A VICTORY OF SORTS
The World Health Organisation recently reported that overweight and obesity are linked to more human deaths worldwide than underweight and undernutrition. This result is a victory for a species that has spent millennia toiling to avoid starvation.
