The Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens are a gem within the city. It is amazing to see the work that has been done in recent times.

The native section has been refurbished with a relatively new barbecue area with a path running through from the main garden in the centre.
Work has also been carried out on the rose garden and the tree chapel. The camellia garden is always worth a visit at this time of the year. The area around the dam has been beautifully improved.
Thanks to the small number of workers who do such a splendid job. Thanks also to the council for its support.
In these troubled times, I for one, find the gardens a haven from the issues that concern me. Very much worth a visit.

WHAT ABOUT THE PENSIONERS?
According to Alan Jones, who hosts his own show on Sky News, the paltry handout of $750 a week to citizens affected by the COVID shutdowns is not nearly enough for them to survive on. Perhaps Alan should spare a thought for our aged pensioners.
A single pensioner has to survive on less that $500 a week and by the time they pay their rent and upkeep, the cupboard is bare and, in most cases, they have a battle just to survive until their next pension is due.
Admittedly, they may get a meagre rent assistance and a few other concessions. However, this is not nearly enough to get them out of Struggle Street.
And in the last federal budget, our big-hearted prime minister and his stingy, and thoughtless, treasurer never even mentioned any increase in their pensions.
This just goes to show how out-of-touch some of our politicians are. The silent minority, and the most needy, are simply ignored.

LOVE, SOLIDARITY GIVES HOPE
After seeing the film The Last Cab to Darwin on the big screen at Forum 6 cinema with a large group of believers, I was horrified at the prospect of the voluntary assisted dying or euthanasia bill ever being passed.
After the negativity, depression and death wish, the main actor endured the gift of love and solidarity from friends gave him hope and happiness, and turned his mindset around to wish for life and peace in his last days.
Our hope is for excellent palliative care for all - especially for more ancillary specialists.

FATHER'S COURAGE COMMENDED
What a pleasure it was to read Father Peter MacLeod-Miller's letter to the editor ("Assisted dying bill 'a blessing'", August 10) confirming that the vast majority of religious congregations strongly support the proposed voluntary assisted dying laws and detailing his observations of the reality of the situation regarding how some people die in hospitals and aged care homes.
I applaud him for having the courage to publish his support for the legislation and hope that it encourages other local religious leaders to follow suit should they feel similarly.
It's nearly enough to get a bloke to go back to attending services.
