THEY were basically assured of finishing second or third regardless, but Charles Sturt University's 62-52 over Temora on Saturday was important for self belief as they look to end a run of flag near misses.

The Bushsows' win means North Wagga has sealed the minor premiership, and the first week off in finals, after they routed winless The Rock-Yerong Creek 84-22.
CSU, Temora and North Wagga all have two losses, but the Saints' superior percentage and their bye in the last round means they will finish top. They face the prospect of a 21-day break before they play in the second week of finals.
Having lost to Temora earlier in the season and coming off a four-goal defeat to North Wagga, CSU's win on Saturday was vital for confidence as they look to go one better than grand final defeats in 2018 and 2019.

"We couldn't get over the top of them last time we played them so we were determined to get the win, especially coming off a loss to North Wagga. It put a bit of fire in us," CSU coach Kirsty Lowe said.
"I don't think it makes much of a difference whether we finish second or third, but getting a win over Temora and knowing we will play them again (in first week of finals) gives us that boost in confidence that we've got the team and players to do it.
"We've beaten North Wagga too, it gave us belief we can beat the top two sides when it comes down to it."
"We've changed it up in the defensive end (with Amy Belfanti and Emma Borlace), they're starting to work really well together."
While there is plenty of water to go under the bridge, Lowe feels they have the tools to get another shot at grand final glory.
"Each year we have a different team, this year half the girls are new so it's about building unity and trying to come together as a team," she said.
"That (premiership) has happened the last couple of years, but we have to keep doing that and hopefully come out on top.
"It was our ladies day on Saturday and the Bushpigs (footballers) came down to watch which was appreciated and made a big difference for us."
Elsewhere Northern Jets secured fifth spot with a 48-41 win over East Wagga Kooringal, who squandered a chance to replace the Jets in the top five with a superior percentage, while Coleambally beat Barellan 37-31.
