Football Wagga have decided to extend the season for an extra three weeks to help accommodate a number of washouts over the past couple of months.
The bold decision meant that Equex Centre was already booked out for the new grand final weekend, October 16-17, resulting a shift to Conolly Park.
Football Wagga sought feedback from clubs on how to best deal with the washouts and the extension of the season proved most popular, given it ensures the integrity of all competitions.
Football Wagga president Tony Dobbin believes the move was a popular one with clubs.
"I think so. That's why we had the meeting with them," Dobbin said.
"We did really stress that they needed to talk to their players, because the players are the ones who play the game obviously and they're the one who are affected by any clashes with anything.
"The feedback on the night was the preference was to extend the season, like we did last year, and I think the positive that was on everyone's minds was that is worked for us last year, with COVID, so it wasn't a shock to everybody, It's happened before, it gives everyone the opportunity to play the game and the strongest thing for it is that it doesn't change or give anyone a positive or negative bias."
The extension will be across all competitions - miniroos, juniors and seniors.
Finals will now begin on the October long weekend and be held over three weeks.

The senior draw will be completed by Football Wagga operations manager Dave Merlino this week. It will include a bye for first grade men's and women's competitions at some point, with Merlino to consult with clubs before determining where the week off is placed.
The biggest issue for Football Wagga in the season extension was ground availabilities but Merlino is confident Conolly Park will work.
"In one way, it will work out better for us. We've booked two grounds so we'll have a warm up ground, which was an issue at Equex," Merlino said.
"You never know, it could be something we continue to use next year. We'll wait and see how it pans out."
