The six-year-old brought up the second win for the Yenda trainer after almost 30 years out of the game at Riverina Paceway on Friday.

Bought for $3000, Heza Conman has more than tripled that after an impressive effort.

After putting the writing on the wall with a third last time out, Schmetzer was thrilled with efforts as he went on to win by 8.2 metres.

He also gave plenty of credit to reinsman Jackson Painting who took any luck out of the equation as he dictated terms from barrier six.

"A good driver made a big difference," Schmetzer said.

After getting it all wrong at the end of his last preparation, galloping in his last two starts, Schmetzer believes he's finally got the eight-year-old right.

Following an unlucky run first up, Heza Conman backed it up in his third run back.

"He had a lot of problems but I've chiropracted him myself and he was out in his hip," he said.

"He was a seven-win horse when I got him and now we've won two with him."

The win pushes Heza Conman through the $50,000 mark.

Schmetzer saw him for sale and decided to take the chance.

He's very glad he did.

"I saw him advertised and looked straight away at his form," Schmetzer said.

"He had won a couple straight at Penrith before something went wrong but I got straight on the phone to say I'd come and pick him up."

The win was Heza Conman's second in nine starts for Schmetzer with the first coming at Leeton in December.

He's enjoyed getting back in the sport.

"I had about 30 years off but I did help some people along the way," Schmetzer said.

"I just needed an interest and my nephews were a bit interested and they help me.

"I said I would find a decent horse for them."

Heza Conman's win was one of two successes for Painting.

He also took out the last race with My Ultimate Andy for uncle David Kennedy.

Painting was the only multiple winner across the nine-race card.
