Currently all NRL matches are scheduled to be played in venues across Queensland, however doubts are beginning to emerge over this arrangement due to the state's worrying surge in COVID-19 cases.
Queensland has recorded 16 new community cases of COVID-19 within the last 24 hours.
The state entered a snap three-day lockdown last weekend, resulting in last Saturday's NRL fixtures being postponed to the following day.
Wagga has proven it has the facilities to host the country's top flight rugby league competition, after successfully holding two Canberra Raiders games since 2019.
Should more cases threaten the current arrangement, Wagga City Council general manager Peter Thompson said he would be happy to assist the NRL with a proven venue in an area of the state that remains COVID-free.
"After seeing the discussions that are occurring around the National Rugby League, we have reached out to our existing contacts within the NRL, which we have an existing relationship with for premiership games, to make them aware that we would participate in any discussion that they would like to have about including Wagga in its contingency plan," Mr Thompson said.
"We have a high quality field which has a proven ability to host NRL games.
"Our role has simply been to make sure when discussions are happening that they are aware that we as a community are supportive of being part of the solution should it be required."

Whether the NRL takes Wagga up on its offer to assist could come down to the Queensland government's ability to contain the coronavirus outbreak in the state.
Exactly how many games and how many teams Wagga could accommodate are questions that would need answering.
"We have proven our ability host NRL fixtures and would be happy to talk," Wagga mayor Greg Conkey said.
Wagga Rugby League chairman Warren Barclay said the council offering its support is a testament to all the hard work that volunteers have put into the Equex Centre over many years to bring it up to NRL standard.
"Wagga Rugby League, we'd welcome any team from the NRL to play at our facility," he said.
"The Wagga Rugby League community has worked hard over the last 12 to 13 years to build what is currently in existence.
"It is testimony to the hard work that has been put in.
"We would relish the idea that the NRL could actually use us as perhaps a potential venue that could be utilised."
